Tuesday 18 August

Yesterday, Davina and Daniel met with the social worker at the Open Prison on the island to discuss the possibility of working with a group of prisoners to create an artwork.

The social worker was very supportive, and thought 'everything was possible' and having checked with the Governor of the prison to discuss the project, we will meet with a group of prisoners, around 5 / 6 in number, later on today.

The one thing we are battling against is the limited time remaining of our residency, less than two weeks now, during which we will also be continuing with the Ferry Greetings, performing BreakUp at the annual Nights of The Arts Festival, and participating in a group work curated by Anna Colin from Gasworks - here as Curator In Residence.

We are going to suggest that the group produce a postcard, along the lines of a Greetings From Suomenlinna card, which would be handed out to tourists visiting the island, and also to devise a guided tour of the island, which hopefully members of the group would be able to lead.

If time permits Davina, and I would also like to deliver an arts based workshop to the group . . . .

The meeting went very well - there are 8 in the group. Davina and Daniel introduced ourselves, showed examples of our work and discussed our ideas - everyone seems on board, and we left feeling excited, and also relieved, after all the planning, and waiting to get the go ahead.

The group will be coming to our studio on Thursday at 9.00 to start working on the postcard.
